Our Doctors Make the Difference

At The Eye Clinic, we’ve been taking care of the vision of our Portland patients for over 70 years. Our mission has been to offer wide-ranging expertise in eye conditions such as glaucoma, along with the finest general eye care for regular eye exams, and a wide assortment of frames and contacts in our optical shop.
We recently moved and updated our offices to increase our capabilities. We’re still in the St. Vincent East Pavilion, but we moved down a floor to a better space in suite 340.
While this has been a crazy spring, we’re looking forward to getting back to normal this summer and we look forward to seeing you for your next eye exam or other optical need.
At The Eye Clinic, we have a long history of great service, and of great ophthalmologists providing it. Currently, our team consists of Dr. John Wilkins, Dr. Elizabeth Donohue, and Dr. John Samples.
Dr. Wilkins has been President of the Eye Clinic since 2002. Dr. Wilkins earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Stanford University and his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. He had an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Providence Hospital & Medical Center in Portland, followed by a Residency in Ophthalmology at Oregon Health Sciences University before completing a Fellowship in Cornea, External Diseases, and Uveitis at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation of the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Donohue earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York and her medical degree from the State University of New York Health Science Center at Syracuse. Dr. Donohue continued her training with an Internship at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, Illinois and a Residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago. She then completed Fellowships in Glaucoma at both the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Chicago Eye Institute.
Dr. Samples practices as a glaucoma consultant at The Eye Clinic, while also maintaining an ophthalmology practice in Olympia, Washington. He earned his undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Biology from Stanford University, his Master’s in Neurobiology from Stanford, and his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego. He continued his training with Residencies in Neurology and Ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic, where he was Chief Resident in Ophthalmology. Dr. Samples then completed a Fellowship in Cornea and External Disease and in Glaucoma at Oregon Health and Sciences University.
All three of our ophthalmologists are board certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
